How is it that some of us spend time talking to plant to make sure that they thrive, yet we ignore the people around us? The journey into motherhood isn't easy and it can be extremely lonely.
For some reason we often feel the need to put on a brave face, especially when things aren't going well, when the baby hasn't slept, when Mum hasn't slept or the baby won't stop crying. New Mums need a friendly face and some reassurance. Give a Mum a smile today and make her day.
Here's three reasons why your smile could make a difference:
A - It will reassure her
It will lift her to know that her new role has been acknowledged, probably one she has taken on unaware of just what a mammoth task it will be.
B - It will make her feel visible
Especially for new mums when its a time when people are more interested in the baby than what Mum is going through
C - It will temporarily take her mind off whatever is going on
Mum might be wondering whether she's handling things correctly and if baby is crying she may be feeling overwhelmed and wondering if it will ever get any better.
Let's not forget that it's the season of good will, so spread the love and give someon else a smile while you're at it. It'll probably freak them out and it's great to keep people wondering who you are and how you know them. It's the cheapest form of entertainment there is! But seriously, smiles are free and are a priceless gift that can turn someone's day around. Mums need nurturing just like their babies.
Make a Mum's day. Smile. I've joined the #asmilemakesaday campaigned created by Shell and The Littlies (@shellandthelittlies) over on Instagram and paying it forward with a smile because I know that I could have done with a smile many a day as a new Mum. Smile your day away.
